Racing Rewards: Ashten Hayes

ashten-hayes-2016

This summer, Crime Prevention Officer Ashten Hayes participated in the OK200 ride, a 200-mile bike ride from Des Moines to Okoboji that helps raise funds to fight human trafficking. The ride has helped raise over $110,000 in the last 4 years, more than half of which was in 2015. Ashten, who has participated in this event the past couple of years, is pictured above with Officer Dan Roth, who also made the ride this year.

Human trafficking is the trade of human beings for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation, forced labor, or child soldiering. This modern form of slavery exists worldwide, and is operating at the highest recorded levels in human history. It is a major problem in Nepal, and part of the funds raised by this ride help support a safe house for sex traffic survivors in that country.
